A Call Out in the Silence
Frakture presents a concert focused on two of the great artistic figures of the 20th Century: John Cage and Yves Klein.
Both of these artists were fascinated with the idea of the Void, of absence... of nothingness. Cage’s work, 4’33”, instructs performers not to play their instruments during the entire performance. The piece was a radical statement when it was composed in 1952, and remains to this day a powerful exploration of what music is.
Yves Klein was similarly fascinated with silence. His Monotone Symphony, actually written three years before Cage’s work, is composed of two sections: the first contains just one continuous note, mimicking his monochrome paintings in sound, while the second section contains only silence.
These two revolutionary pieces will be accompanied by a number of premieres of pieces by local composers.
