LIJF 2026 - LIJF Youth Collective: Friday, February 27, 1pm, The Capstone Theatre:

Mark Jones (sax) as long standing, LHU Alumni often assists events such as this, approaching for this Liverpool International Jazz Festival 2026...

"In this lunchtime concert, Liverpool Hope University Big Band under the direction of Dr Tom Sykes will perform a varied programme.

Invited students from local secondary schools will also perform, including some joint items with the Big Band.

This is the culmination of workshops led by tutors from Parrjazz in an outreach project to provide young musicians who would not normally have access to jazz with an opportunity to participate in jazz and improvisation, as well as to play in a large ensemble with more experienced players. The intention is for the students to gain confidence, learn new skills and understanding about jazz, be creative and above all, have fun doing so!" Admission is free and the concert will last no more than 1 hour.

“We would like to thank everyone involved and included in the world Make Music Day 2023 occasion, especially attendees, participants and staff members for being so nice at the event which was kindly hosted by the popular venue, Handyman’s Pub, in Wavertree!

It was quite the undertaking, but a fine blend of saxophone, flugelhorn vocalists and guitars stretching across jazz/blues elements really represented the meaning of MMD, the bedrock for anyone who was interested to get on the stage, into the limelight, and excellently show their artistry and panache, yesterday evening :)

May live music from the people, continue on!”
